Happy Birthday, Mickey!

Mickey made his debut on Nov. 18, 1928, when “Steamboat Willie,” a cartoon short, was released at the Colony Theatre in New York.
“Steamboat Willie” was this first synchronized sound cartoon and was actually a parody, loosely based on “Steamboat Bill, Jr.,” a silent movie starring Buster Keaton that was released that same year, according to Disney’s D23 website. In that film, the good-hearted Willie, similar to Mickey Mouse’s role, is the son of the rough-and-tumble Steamboat Bill, parodied in the Disney version by Pete.
Who knew what amazing things would blossom from that cartoon, and that 83 years later, Mickey Mouse would still be one of the most adored animated characters ever created.

I love pretty much anything Disney, especially Disneyland. I am such a frequent visitor of the Anaheim theme parks that I can help people figure out the best time of year or week to go to avoid overwhelming crowds. If there was a Disney beat, I would be the happiest reporter on Earth.
